NBC High School students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning through the selection of optional subjects. Our teachers and counsellors guide students to make choices relevant to their individual strengths, areas of interest and future career plans. Each student is provided with a personalised timetable which is tailored to meet their educational needs. The students are supported and challenged as they work at their own pace to achieve their personal best.
The GCSE and IGCSE (International General Certificate of Education) programme is a globally recognised academic qualification that follows a set curriculum over 2 years leading to externally accredited examinations. NBC’s Sixth Form College is proud to offer a fully comprehensive curriculum designed to enable students to pursue their preferred areas of study to both AS and A2 level. In addition, every student graduates with a High School Diploma endorsed by the TRNC Ministry of Education. Students who have graduated from NBC are accepted to study at a number of universities across the world. NBC sixth formers are encouraged to be role models for all students. With a school council and school captains elected by the students, they act as a liaison between the students and teachers throughout the year.
A Levels are fully recognised in over 50 countries including the UK, all EU member states, the USA, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. There is a minimum entrance requirement for entry to the A-level programme and each student’s application to the Sixth Form will be treated individually and assessed on a case-by-case basis. Applications are welcome from students who have not previously studied at NBC.
NBC is proud to announce that we are the first school in Cyprus to become an accredited Pearson BTEC Centre.
BTECs are designed as specialist work-related qualifications. They provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for further study, training and employment. They are available at different levels and some are accepted as IGCSE and A Level equivalents so can be used for university applications.
BTECs are made up of a number of units assessed through assignments such as essays, projects, investigations, practicals, presentations and fieldwork. There are no formal examinations as BTECs require continuous assessment. BTECs are graded using a Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*. At NBC we will be offering BTECs at level 2 and 3 in the following subjects this academic year:
